Insurance for Nonprofit Organizations

Dyste Williams serves the insurance needs of nonprofits by finding comprehensive, cost-effective protection choices from reputable carriers within a nonprofit budget. We have access to specialty insurance programs designed for many different types of nonprofit organizations, including social services, childcare, sports and athletics and special events.

We understand that your commitment to helping the community exposes your nonprofit organization to risks that must be mitigated. No nonprofit can afford a catastrophic lawsuit. We’ll take a proactive approach to designing an insurance protection package by getting to know your nonprofit organization and learning where the risks lie given your unique activities.

We bring experienced, independent eyes to nonprofits in need of trusted insurance advice. We review the organization’s current insurance coverage and in particular, identify areas that need improvement. We research and compare to see if we can save you money with another carrier who may offer better coverage at a lower price.

Commercial Property and General Liability

Commercial Property insurance covers loss or damage to buildings, contents like furniture, machinery or inventory. Specific computer coverage is necessary to adequately insure computer equipment, software and data loss. To protect from loss due to employee dishonesty, crime is another important addition to consider. Business interruption coverage provides protection for income loss due to building damage.
General Liability protects the nonprofit against claims that personal injury or damage to property occurred on the premises. It will protect your organization from a lawsuit brought by someone, like a visitor, customer or supplier, who is injured on your property. Coverage should be designed to include fundraisers and other special events or activities away from the premises.

Directors and Officers Liability (D&O)

Directors and Officers liability insurance provides protection for lawsuits brought against a nonprofit’s executive management or Board of Directors. Claims covered relate to the management and oversight of the organization, and may include wrongful firing, discrimination in hiring practices, sexual harassment or improper management of nonprofit funds.

Umbrella and Excess Liability

Umbrella coverage protects a nonprofit from a catastrophic lawsuit by adding protection above and beyond what is provided by the core liability coverage. We recommend an Umbrella as an essential policy for our nonprofit clients because you are vulnerable to expensive litigation from many parties, including members of the community, employees and volunteers. A comprehensive liability protection package should also include Directors and Officers coverage in order to protect current Board or Foundation members from liability surrounding their fiduciary responsibilities.

Workers Compensation

By law, a nonprofit organization with one or more employees must have the protection of Workers Compensation insurance. Workers Comp provides benefits to employees that pay for the cost of treating work-related illness or injury. Dyste Williams finds affordable and innovative Workers Comp policies that integrate early intervention, advanced claim and medical technology and a return-to-work strategy. These policies typically include Employers Liability Coverage, which protects employers from lawsuits involving work-related accidents or diseases.

Employment Practices Liability

Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) is a separate policy that protects a nonprofit from employee claims involving alleged discrimination, sexual harassment, discrimination or wrongful termination.

Commercial Automobile

If your nonprofit organization has dedicated vehicles and/or employees who use their own cars to do business or run errands, you many need hired as well as non-owned auto insurance Dyste Williams can obtain commercial auto coverage for nonprofits that is reasonably priced and effective. We recommend extending coverage to volunteers as well as employees.
