Our First Meeting
The first step is to set up a complimentary assessment meeting. We get to know you and what you would like to accomplish. You decide if we’re a good fit for your needs. There are six parts to our flexible financial planning process, and you can pick several or complete the entire process. The process includes cash flow and budgeting, risk management, tax planning, investment planning, retirement planning, and estate planning.
Cash flow and budgeting are an important part of any financial plan. We help you determine your needs vs. wants and work with you to establish a budget. We’ll discuss cash reserve strategies, discretionary income, debt management using lines of credit and net worth.
This part of the process is an insurance review. We review your current insurance coverage, assess your liability, and discuss your needs and preferences. Do you feel adequately protected? What’s the right amount of insurance for you? We listen and make recommendations. The insurance overview includes discussion of employer benefits (if applicable), life insurance, disability, long term care, auto and home policies, umbrella liability, deductibles vs. cash reserves, policy status, beneficiary designations, special needs situations and additional coverage strategies.
Health care planning can have a significant impact on finances for those close to, or in, retirement. It’s important to consider the choices carefully, particularly regarding Medicare and Medigap policies. We work closely with our in-house expert in these matters, Heidi Michaels of Dyste Williams.
We can work with you and your accountant to maximize your tax planning opportunities. We look at ways to reduce taxable income, restructure investments to your benefit and develop strategies to improve net income.
Assessing our clients’ investments is a key part of what we do. We review asset allocation based on your risk tolerance and the performance of your current investments. We may recommend repositioning investments to get you on track to reach your goals. We recommend investments from a wide range of stocks, bonds and mutual funds. You benefit because we are an independent investment resource not tied to any specific investment company or entity.

How and when you withdraw retirement money has important tax implications, and we can help you distribute assets to your best advantage. We address pre-age 59½ strategies and Social Security, as well as Roth conversions, income streams and transitions, minimum distributions, tax transitions and risk tolerance.
