Nels made Dyste Williams a fourth generation agency when he joined the company in January 2014. Nels graduated from Saint Olaf College in 2008, where he studied Political Science and competed on the Division III Nordic Ski team. After graduating, Nels worked with a number of non-profit organizations including the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, Wilderness Inquiry and the National Sports Center for the Disabled. Most recently, Nels spent 4 years as a Program Coordinator in the Sports and Recreation Department at the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute (Courage Center), where he organized and led year round inclusive recreation programs, trained and recruited volunteers and participated in fundraising and marketing opportunities for people with disabilities to be active in their community. He brings a passion and talent for creative problem-solving and working with a variety of clients.
Nels is a graduate of the Travelers New Producer Training Program, has a Small Business Coverage Specialist designation from the Hartford School of Insurance.
Nels lives in South Minneapolis with his wife and their daughter and enjoys biking and fly fishing along the shores of Lake Superior. He is an avid skier, and an amateur home-brewer. In 2018, Nels was the Chief of Competition for the Masters World Cup in Minneapolis and routinely volunteers with many different organizations in the Twin Cities.
